Michael Owen the biased fucker, saying Caulker's handball was accidental. Unbelievable.

Agree totally

Regarding the spirit the game was played in, I thought that what was so refreshing to see was how the 2 managers behaved. Credit to both of them, they both showed their own passion to win, yet had total respect with one another, often sharing a joke with one another. A true breath of fresh air in the game.

Good managers lead by example and both of them set a fine example of that yesterday.

Well done Mr Bilic and Mr Klopp.

Had Kayoute stayed on we'd have beaten them. I don't give a fuck about Klopp's fixture build up, we're a very good side now and with 2-3 key players missing still a top six side on quality.

Can't see any other result than beating them at our place, when did we ever feel that way about WH v scouse?

Billic has made us tougher than an 'Allardyce team' and linked that with real quality and a very good passing game.

The best thing this board has done for a a very, very long time was appoint him as manager.

I disagree with some about Song and Obiang too. I thought Song was excellent second half and he and Obiang did well considering the extra man Liverpool had in midfield at times together with the high pressing game. Song battled well and got a lot of tackles in. Payet was the worse player on the pitch for us yesterday in terms of overall involvement but that said, he still put in the best cross of the game.

Opinions I know but I guess my point is I think Song is getting back to his best and should be a starter every game now.

Agree 100%. Whole game changed with the Kouyate sub. Bilic opted for experience and was forced as a result to remove one from midfield. This allowed Liverpool to have a man over in the middle and dominate possession but more crucially they were able to close down Payet and co in seconds with the extra man.

I think Slav may have been better putting Cullen or Oxford on but that is hindsight and remember too this was first half. The injuries screwed up our game plan.

We miss Lanzini more than anyone if it's a competition.

I thought we struggled when jelavic came on as we seemed to go 4 4 2 I would have moved Valencia out wide and Payet inside and left Jelavuc up top on his own

Wont be a popular veiw on here but i think we missed Noble in the middle and definitely still missing sakho as much as anyone. Song and Obiang didn't handle a novice Liverpool midfield all that well, they should have controlled the game from there. Anyway still in the hat, not our best performance and will be better next time out.

Obiang wasn't poor when we had 3 in midfield, he was our best player first half. Not great second half though.

I think it was Noble we missed
Song is a good player (he had an off day yesterday again) but he does not cover the ground that Noble does (What Clive Allen described him as "ratting around"
The nearest to that was Obiang (who was also poor yesterday)

.
I wouldve thought that person would be Song rather than Noble who often runs down blind alleys til he loses it. Plus the way they were closing us down, I think Noble wouldve given it away a fair bit more than we did.

I thought the referee got it about right
We should have had a penalty for the 2nd handball (Caulker) when the ball was handled twice (the second touch looked very deliberate to me) but it was shielded from the referees view by the players body

The 1st handball (where the defenders arms were raised) looked completely accidental ~ the player was looking the other way & disorientated)

They could easily have had a penalty when Reid was obviously tugging on their mans shirt but again his body shielded it from the referee

Their other shout for a penalty when Obiang nudged Adams as he attempted a bicycle kick was a nonesense. Completely accidental

The match was played in good spirit though. No contraversial decisions as far as I'm concerned

I think Atkinson is the best EPL referee by a mile

Not only cost us that game Bruce, think of the games he missed when we struggled to score.

As I say, all academic now, but I do think we've not had the rub of the green in the main.

The McCarthy tackle was particularly frustrating. If someone intentionally goes out to nobble a player, you at least expect them to be punished accordingly. When they're not and it most likely costs you a couple of points, it's hard to take.

That's a very noble thought, Polite.

We were poor yesterday, no doubt, but there has been one poster who thought we were good.

No fucking surprise who it was, and why he said it. Absolute clown.

Re: Liverpool v West Ham - Official Match Thread HT 0-0
Bruce, no doub that's the case, but as you've even said yourself, there has definitely been a lot more against us. I didn't think the Collins one was a pen anyway, he was far too close to the ball.

Anyway, no point going over them all, just my opinion that we've had a lot more not go our way, and off the top of my head can think of 5 big decisions go against us, the worst easily being the McCarthy tackle. I cannot fathom how that could not be a red, that ref was appalling.

Mr Polite 9:59 Sun Jan 31
Re: Liverpool v West Ham - Official Match Thread HT 0-0
I know this won't go down well with some knuckle draggers, but I think we needed someone in the middle of the park to just do the simple things, to be looking at receiving the ball at all times, to just keep possession even if that means just playing a simple pass. A cool head.
